About

My work examines the results of human interactions – the consequences of balancing our autonomy with our relationships as we strive to be both independent and part of a community. Emotional truths resonate; they are the universals. Yet it’s ironic that what’s universal has to be made specific to become accessible. So my suggested narratives depict individuals. They talk about power, control, devotion, alienation, loyalty, and union – our complex responsibilities to each other and ourselves.

Jill Eberle has a rich and varied background, having been employed as a scene painter, architectural draftsman, prop builder, sign language interpreter, counselor, illustrator, sailmaker, and for over a dozen years as an adjunct professor at East Carolina University where she taught drawing, painting, illustration and artistic anatomy.  She’s also taught at ECU’s Italy Intensive Program in Tuscany and at Penland School of Craft.

Her work has been exhibited at the Steamboat Art Museum in Colorado, Gallery Hall in Georgia, and at venues across North Carolina including the Greenhill Center, Elder Gallery, the Imperial Center, and the Greenville Museum of Art. It’s held in collections of the City of Rocky Mount and Hatteras Yachts. Residencies include Jentel Arts near Banner, WY and three Penland Winter Residencies. The Arts Council of North Carolina has awarded her three project grants. She holds BFA, MA, and MFA degrees.
